Kursk Region abounds in generous nature and in historical events. Kursk nightingales with their unique warbling, Kursk archeological sites, and the great Kursk Battle that determined the outcome of World War II are known all over the country.

Kursk dwellers had been protecting the southern boundaries of Russia for more than a thousand years. Only after the Azov campaign of Peter I the territory became a peaceful place. Many famous people admired the beauty of the region. For example, Catherine II called Kursk "A Russian Venice".
