The smallest of all the spa towns, Zheleznovodsk lies at the front of the Mt Zheleznaya (852m), on the northern side of Mt Beshtau. The nice park here spreads up the mountain towards the natural forest. Zheleznovodsk waters are used for digestive, kidney and metabolic problems. Several springs are in the upper reaches of the park. On the way up you may see the red-and-white Ostrovsky Baths (1893) named after the great Russian dramatist, the blue-and white Pushkin Gallery (1901), and the former Emir of Bukhara’s late 19th century palace, now the Sanatory Telmana.
