State Museum of Vladimir Mayakovsky

The museum of Vladimir Mayakovsky is situated in the house where the great poet lived and worked from 1919 to 1930. The collections of the museum opened in 1974 were based on the funds of Mayakovsky’s Library-Museum founded in 1938.

Since Mayakovsky is considered one of the brightest representatives of Russian avant-garde art, the museum dedicated to his life and creativity could not but break classical museum canons. Prominent artists, architects and scriptwriters of the 20th century arranged the museum interior and expositions using the image & plot method, which allows making visitors the co-authors and participants of the developing scenario.

Today the museum collection counts over 50 000 exhibits including the poet’s notebooks, manuscripts, drawings, personal paraphernalia and furniture of the Mayakovskys’ family.
