Shakhmatovo estate, “a corner of Paradise not far from Moscow” is a unique historical and cultural space, alight with the genius of the Russian poet.
Alexander Blok spent his childhood in the estate and visited it during 36 years from the 41 years of his life. Many of the poet’s famous works were created here.
In 1910 the poet had the main mansion of the estate rebuilt by his own project. In 1921 the estate was destroyed.
Since 1970 the “beloved glade” of Alexander Blok has hosted the All-Russian Poetry Festivals.
The year 1984 saw the beginning of museum foundation. The museum collections made it possible to create expositions dedicated to the poet and his family, along with the Silver Age of Russian culture.
