Bilibino

Geologists found the first placer gold in industrial concentration in the valley of the Karalvaam River in 1955. Thus gold miners depot was founded. In 1956 the settlement was named after the pioneer of Gold Kolyma - Yury Bilibin - the geologist who discovered the gold field here. Bilibino got the status of a town in 1993.
