Alagir is a city in Russia, the administrative center of the Alagir District of North Ossetia.
The city is located on the banks of River Ardon at its exit from the Alagir Gorge of mountains of Greater Caucasus into Ossetian Plain, 54 km to the west of Vladikavkaz.
Alagir has the population of 20211 people (as of 2016).
In the suburb of Alagir there is a balneological Resort of Tamisk with sulphidic sulfate-magnesium-calcium water springs.
Alagir is considered to be an ancient historical city. It was founded in 1850 as the settlement of the silver and lead plant that functioned till 1897. Until 1863 it was named Mountain Village.
