    Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Area

Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Area is a subject of Russian Federation within the Tyumen Region and a part of Ural Federal District. It is situated on the country's extreme north, on the Yamal peninsula and in the northern Urals. By the way, the name Yamal means "ends of the earth". Most part of the region lies beyond the Arctic Circle.

Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Area borders on the Nenets Autonomous Area, Komi Republic, Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Area (Yugra) and Krasnoyarsk Territory.

The provincial capital of the region is Salekhard.

Officially, Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Area was formed on the December, 10, 1930.
