In Krasnodar, freezing rain caused new power blackouts.
During 20 January night technological failures occurred on power lines in several districts of Krasnodar Krai due to preceding freezing rain, sleet and gusty winds. "Freezing rain caused the icing on overhead power lines, leading to wire breaks. Natural disaster struck south-western region the most. Because of continued precipitations, fast recovery works became complicated," the press-service of JSC Kubanenergo reports.
Currently, about 80 “Kubanenergo” mechanic teams are recovering distribution complex after technological breakdowns. The power company's press service explained that first and foremost, electricians will provide electricity for socially-significant facilities by using diesel generators. Emergency response center, which supervises the fast recovery works, is operating in "Kubanenergo".
On January 27, freezing rain caused new power blackouts. Several dozen substations were de-energized. "Due to bad weather conditions, six 110 kV high-voltage line feeders of “Kubanenergo” and JSC "NESK-elektroseti-Krasnodarelektroset" grids were left without electricity. As a result, several dozen substations in Prikubansky, Karasunsky and Central city districts left without electricity for more than an hour.
According to the engineers, "at the moment, the accident effects have been liquidated, substations are returning to work," the Urban Integrated Dispatch Service reports. In addition, a fallen tree damaged high-voltage line on Gorky Street in Pashkovsky district. Here, the power supply has also been recovered. According to the official portal of Krasnodar administration, electricians continue to work in emergency mode – reparation works are going on in different parts of the capital of Kuban. As it was reported in the morning of January 27, 60 houses, inhabited by 172 people remain without electricity.
Krasnodar Krai is a Russian region lying almost halfway between the North Pole and the Equator in the same latitude as Northern Italy and Southern France. The climate in the flat part of the krai is moderately warm with hot summers and mild winters, shifting to subtropical towards the Black Sea coast (from Anapa to Tuapse). The forests of Kuban possess major environmental significance and are the main source of fine wood. The total forest area of Krasnodar Krai is above 18 million hectares. The stretch of the Black Sea coast between Tuapse and Adler is subtropical. Krasnodar Krai was founded on September 13, 1937, and is part of the Southern Federal District of Russian Federation. Its administrative, economic and cultural center is the city of Krasnodar. The distance between Krasnodar and Moscow is 1539 km. Krasnodar Krai is one of the most important economy centers of Russian Federation. The foreign trade turnover of the krai is growing annually. Oil and petrochemical products prevail (over 70%) in the commodity structure of regional export. Among other significant items of export are crops and oilseeds, timber and woodworking products, chemical fertilizers, lathes and metal cutting machines, etc. The total volume of imported goods remains at roughly the same level, but the structure of imports has changed significantly over the last few years. There is a stable tendency towards the increased import of goods for production purposes. The leading partners of the krai are the U.S.A., Germany, Italy, Turkey, the Ukraine, Uzbekistan, and the Republic of Belarus. The geography of foreign trade has shown the tendency towards increased trade with countries far abroad.
