Ministry of Natural Resources and Ecology of Russia intends protection of Moskva River coastline and surrounding forests.

This decision was caused by numerous complaints of area residents about the relict forests cut down for multi-storey residential build-ups and about Moskva River coastline invaded by luxury cottage settlements. As a result, the ecology of the entire region suffers as capital's protective green belt is being cut down and locals are deprived original recreation areas: in many areas the access to Moskva River and its tributaries is completely blocked up.

"This will allow public authorities and residents of nearby communities to control the activities of third parties on these lands. Constructing within the national parks is subject to state ecological expertise with compulsory public hearings," Deputy Minister Rinat Gizatulin explained.

Several municipal districts of Moscow region: Krasnogorsky, Odintsovsky, Istrinsky, Ruzsky and Mozhaysky will be incorporated into Moskovia National Park. It will stretch over the Moskva River valley, partially including its tributaries: basins of Istra and Malaya Istra rivers. Its boundaries will include woodlands between Volokolamskoye, Novorizhskoye and Mozhaiskoye highways. Its area will expand to 150,000 hectares.

Project works has already started in the national park and will last until the end of 2015. After that on the basis of competition will be determined general contractor of future Moskovia. The park is created with federal funds. No construction will be performed on its territory, there will be laid only sightseeing and environmental trails and will be arranged the recreational places for visitors. The park will be open for all people. Within the boundaries of the future park there are cottage and chalet villages, roads, housing and road constructions are in progress.

Most likely, experts say, these areas will adjoin the national park without eliminating the businesses. Important thing says Rinat Gizatulin, is that decision to establish the National Park in Moscow "will stop the further development in environmentally priceless areas; will preserve the unique cultural and natural monuments in the region and forest zones on Moscow borders, which are actually capital's lungs."
