Khodynka Field Park Concept
April 9, 2014 20:45

The results of the contest for the architectural concept of the park at Khodynka Field were announced on March 31.

Following the meeting of the Contest Committee, ten companies - finalists of the contest were assigned ratings. “Recommendations based on the ratings will be sent to the relevant departments of Moscow, and the Committee will decide on the winners basing on evaluation and comments” - Sergei Kuznetsov said.

Back in mid-December of last year organizers announced the 10 finalists selected from among 97 participants: 4 Russian and 6 foreign companies. Following the meeting of the Contest Committee, the Landscape Design Workshop ARTEZA got a conditional fifth place in the rating. The concept of the park presented to the judges was supposed to be divided into four areas: a transit area separated from the main park and connecting the main pedestrian routes and subway entrances, a central area, “front” one, accommodating a large number of people for mass events, a landscape area for quiet family recreation, as well as space for active recreation and sports.

Due to the technique of geoplastics, creation of hills and other landscape elements, the project authors managed to connect architecture and nature into a single whole, as well as to significantly increase the green area of the park. It was planned to make the park an independent art object, so that visitors could get from one landscape to another during their walk: from the lilac garden to the apple one, to coniferous forest, to open spaces covered with arrays of gramineous plants.

According to the Chief Architect of Moscow Sergei Kuznetsov, the park at Khodynka Field may be finished by the end of 2016.
