Chelyabinsk Photomarathon
June 2, 2014 17:24

Closing ceremony of the fifth regional photo festival Photofest 2014 was held on June 1, the press service of the Chelyabinsk regional branch of Russian Union of Art Photographers reports. Awarding of the winners of its main event – “One Day in the Life of the Chelyabinsk Oblast" photomarathon – took place in the museum of local lore.

The most massive photographing in the history of the Chelyabinsk Oblast was attended by over 700 people, including members of the city photo clubs; editorial staff of regional newspapers; curators of thirty footholds from remote corners of the oblast; enterprise photographers; entire teams of photography schools and various creative associations. The organizing committee has received more than two and a half thousand photographs from professional and amateur photographers around the region.

Photomarathon participants managed to capture the activities of about five hundred industrial enterprises, organizations and institutions and shoot all the life diversities in Southern Urals. The school was the most popular subject. On May 23, the day of photomarathon, "the last bells" and graduation celebrations were carried out throughout the Chelyabinsk Oblast. No wonder that this event was captured by several dozen photographers in almost all the regions, cities and towns. At the same time they fixed student life and daily routine of kindergartens. Three authors shoot scenes in maternity hospitals of the oblast. The birth of a new man was taken by the most winning master Sergei Vasiliev. The youngest participant of the photomarathon was Vlada Russkikh from Magnitogorsk.

Eleven-year-girl won the jury with her picture "Flight into the Future" made during the parade of graduates. According to the organizer of the photomarathon, the chairman of the regional branch of the Russian Union of Art Photographers and director of Chelyabinsk Museum of Local HIstory Vladimir Bogdanov, the photographing was great: "This is exactly what we had planned: a massive and friendly trip to all corners of the Chelyabinsk Oblast. We managed to photograph not only the largest and most significant industries and enterprises in the Southern Urals, but also pictures of everyday life of ordinary people.

Most of the submitted pictures are high quality, and they were taken not just by amateurs but by really passionate people. We did not even know that in our oblast are so many good documentary photographers! Of course, there are landscapes, flowers and pets, as well as pictures for the family album, but this is the one day in regions' life. We thank everyone who participated in the preparation, organization and holding of the photomarathon."

The results of “One Day in the Life of the Chelyabinsk Oblast" photomarathon were summed up by a competent jury, which consisted of region's respected photo professionals. Photomarafon was supported by the governor and was dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the Chelyabinsk Oblast. A large "One Day in the Life of the Chelyabinsk Oblast" photo album, which will include more than a thousand best shots, will be published on the basis of marathon results. Presentation of the book is scheduled at the end of 2014.
