Improving The Capacity Of Moscow Streets
August 19, 2014 16:45

The Department for Competition Policy of Moscow selected the companies that should focus on improving the capacity of the streets in five administrative districts. The total amount of contracts makes up more than 870 million roubles: the money will be spent on arrangement of parking draw-ins, reconstruction of sidewalks, creating booster strips. All works must be finished before the end of 2014.

Expenditures on roads are included in the target program “Development of the Transport System of Moscow” approved until 2020. It includes the sub-program “Automobile Roads” with the funding of 968 billion roubles (the whole program - more than 4 trillion roubles.).

The sub-program is, in fact, divided into two parts.

The first and the most capital-intensive one is the construction of new roads, highways and bridges. This will presumably increase the capacity of radial directions by 11%. The active construction of infrastructure facilities began in 2011, another portion of large objects construction will be launched this autumn.

The second part consists of local events, their purpose is to reduce overmileage of vehicles between administrative districts and to make small streets more comfortable for driving.

The third part is made up by the expenditures for the movement organization (with the help of traffic lights, road markings). As the Department for Competition Policy reports, within the frame of the competition the companies will have to widen the roads, build parking draw-ins, build pedestrian crossings, new sidewalks until the end of 2014.

The work will be performed simultaneously in five administrative districts, but it will affect mostly South-Western, Southern and Eastern Administrative Districts. For example, 1.5 million and 4.1 million roubles will be spent on the construction of parking draw-ins on Avtozavodskaya street and Paveletskaya embankment, respectively. A footpath for 652 thousand roubles is being built on Orekhovy proezd.  A right-side booster strip for 1.6 million roubles will appear on Podol'skikh Kursantov street. The same amount will be spent on furnishing places for passengers waiting for public transport on Simferopolsky Boulevard
