The legendary cruiser “Aurora” sent for repair to the Kronstadt Naval Plant of the Defense Ministry of the RF in September will return to the place of its “eternal anchorage” at the Petrogradskaya Embankment of St. Petersburg in 2016, as the Head of the Department of Culture of the Ministry of Defense of the RF Anton Gubankov told.
Earlier it was reported that, if the primary repair was insufficient, the cruiser would return to its place only in 2016. However, if the results of such repair will meet all the requirements, “Aurora” will return to its anchorage in November of 2014. “The full amount of repair works cannot be carried out in less than a year. We hope that “Aurora” will arrive to its permanent anchorage place to the anniversary of the branch of the Central Naval Museum in 2016 “ – Gubankov said. He recalled that more than 20 thematic exhibitions on the history of “Aurora” with multimedia elements are currently being prepared. The director of the Kronstadt Naval Plant Anatoly Beloev, in his turn, reported that the examination of the underwater part of the ship has found it in satisfactory condition.
“The state of the body is satisfactory, as for today. The only defect is the crack discovered above the waterline. It was examined by experts and will be welded up in the near future” - he said. Beloev also noted that the examination did not reveal the dynamics of the corrosion of the outer part of the body. It was decided to clean and paint the above-water body. He added that the plant experts complete the cleaning the of the rudder blade cover, which “has kept the original look”.
According to him, it was decided to keep the detail in its original condition, that is, to leave a bronze frame with wooden filling. The completion of dock repair of the cruiser is scheduled for November of this year. The repair sheet ¹2 is being currently prepared, the amount of funding and the schedule of performance of the second stage of the cruiser’s repair are being calculated.
