New Urban Development Projects Cause Bewilderment

It was offered to install cafes-toilets in Moscow. The project of street water closets combined with vending machines and even cafeterias was presented at the forum “Urban Development - the Development for 2014”.
The developers offered several options for a “cafe”: a kitchen with a window of food hand-out or a full-fledged cafeteria with tables. It is also planned to install vending machines with snacks and water into the sides of toilet stalls. “We have only 1.2 thousand plots are allocated for toilet modules” - the representative of the contractor, “ST Consulting “ LLC, Egor Evdokimov said. – “We have already installed 400 toilet modules, another 800 will be constructed by the end of 2015. We made up several solutions for them, including cafes-toilets.

Certainly, the premises will comply with regulations and requirements of sanitary norms. According to sanitary regulations and standards, the placement of adjacent cafes and toilets is prohibited, but we have separate entrances.” The complex of municipal engineering of Moscow told that it will decide on the necessity of toilets with cafes or vending machines after  it receives an official offer from the company.

The President of the National Association of Automated Trading Boris Belotserkovskiy believes that vending machines next to toilet modules will not be in demand. “An excessive proximity of food and toilet can cause unpleasant associations of the residents of Moscow” - he said. The expert of the web-site “Tualet.ru” Vladimir Priorov said that multifunctional water closets are very common abroad. According to him, there are street toilets in the US that provide up to half a dozen different services. “Some toilets even “render medical aid” - a person can measure the blood pressure there, call the emergency”.

I think that extra services in the stalls and next to them will be popular among the city residents, especially if the toilets will be located in public places” – Priorov said. He also noted that coupling of cafes and toilet modules should not confuse the residents of Moscow. “Tables are put right in front of the toilet door in usual cafes, and no one cares” - the expert noted.
