Generation of an electronic genealogic tree of the total population of the republic of Yakutia will start in 2015.
This is reported on the official website of the head of the region, according to the head of the Public Organization “Research Institute of Ethnology and Genealogy of the Peoples of the North” Konstantin Argunov. According to him, the implementation of the project requires translation of the data of the archives of the republic into electronic format. It is planned to involve all municipalities of Yakutia in this work and complete it in 2018. The technology applied in this case is the result of genealogical research of 43 Yakut families.
“The technique making it possible to create a genealogic tree of up to six generations is already a reality” – Argunov stated on a scientific and practical conference “The Tree of Ancestors to the Young Generations” dedicated to the project. According to him, the final result will be “the creation of an electronic storage of the genealogic tree of the republic; and future generations will have a real chance of virtual immortality”. The head of the Academy of Sciences of Yakutia Igor Kolodeznikov pointed out that the collection of data on the heredity of citizens will also help doctors save their health. “Many diseases can be prevented and treated more effectively, knowing certain features of the genetic history of an individual” – Kolodeznikov believes.
According to Argunov, the work on the creation of digital archives has already begun. The project on creation of a single electronic genealogic tree is funded by a grant provided by the Republic’ Department of Development of Civil Initiatives. According to its organizers, they would like to spread this experience throughout the country in the future.
