I know that the U.S. is not the be all and end all of peacefulness. However, to compare the American Revolution, which cost tens of thousands of lives, with the Stalinist era of Soviet history is silly. Stalin was directly responsible for as many as 20 million deaths. A better comparison would be slavery combined with our treatment of Native Americans. The death toll wasn't as high, but the horrible moral consequences were very much the same.
