During the next few months the General Prosecutor's Office of Switzerland intends to bring an official accusation of corruption against the four people, possibly including two top managers of “Gazprom”, according to the Zurich newspaper ‘Tages-Anzeiger’.
The edition does not mention the names of suspects. It is reported that one of the participants in the corruption scandal still holds a senior position in “Gazprom”.
The second suspect left the company in 2008, and before that he was a member of the Management Board of “Gazprom” and was responsible for transportation and storage of gas.
Referring to its sources in the Prosecutor's Office ‘Tages-Anzeiger’ reported that the representatives of “Gazprom” are suspected of taking bribes in the amount of 2-3% of the value of the contract for the supply of compressor stations for the gas pipeline “Yamal – Europe”. Only in one of the investigated cases we are talking about a “kickback” of about $ 4 million.
In November 2013 the Prosecutor's Office of Switzerland accused Swedish the company Siemens Industrial Turbomachinery (SIT) of the fact that it concluded the contract for the supply of gas turbines in the implementation of the “Yamal – Europe” pipeline project, thanks to bribing the senior management of the Russian state-owned company.
According to the investigation, SIT made illegal payments in 2004-2006, transferring money to the accounts opened by the recipients in the Swiss banks. The Prosecutor's Office then noted that SIT admitted its guilt. The Swiss authorities obliged the subsidiary of Siemens to pay a fine in the amount of $ 10.6 million, as well as to make a donation to the International Committee of the Red Cross in the amount of $ 135 thousand.
The owner and the operator of the Russian part of the pipeline is “Gazprom”, and the customer of the pipeline was “Yamalgazinvest” - the subsidiary of “Gazprom”. The general contractor is the company “Stroytransgaz”. The construction of the pipeline “Yamal – Europe” was completed in 2006. It crosses the territories of the four countries - Russia, Belarus, Poland and Germany.
