The countries - candidates for EU membership joined the sanctions against Russia previously adopted by Brussels, as RIA Novosti reports with reference to the circulated message of the European Union Council.

The sanctions were joined by Albania, Iceland, Montenegro, Norway, Liechtenstein and Ukraine. We speak of the sanctions adopted by the EU in September - then the restrictions affected the oil and aerospace industries, as well as the defense complex. The European sanctions concerned “Rosneft”, “Transneft”, “Gazprom Neft”, Uralvagonzavod.

Moreover, it was prohibited to buy or sell securities with a maturity of more than 30 days issued by Russian state banks (Sberbank, VTB, Gazprombank, VEB ans Rosselkhozbank) for the EU citizens . Earlier, the countries – neighbors of the EU joined the previous sanctions on Russia. In May Montenegro, Iceland, Albania, Liechtenstein and Norway have frozen bank accounts and prohibited the entry to 15 Russian citizens, including the Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Kozak, the deputies of the chairman of the State Duma Sergei Neverov and Lyudmila Shvetsova and several other officials.

On October, 14 the EU representative in Moscow Vygaudas Usackas said that the EU sanctions against Russia were not infinite, and were not a goal in themselves. According to him, they will be reviewed at the end of October. Usackas called the progress on stabilization of the situation in Ukraine and the observance of the Minsk peace agreements as a condition for the lifting of sanctions.
