The Security Service of Ukraine (SSU) stated that it had evidence on the involvement of Russian citizens in the conflict in Donbass, in particular in the latest events near Mariupol. This was stated at an agency’s meeting by its Head Valentin Nalivaichenko.

“We have irrefutable evidence in the form of detained and killed terrorists, including Russian citizens who were involved and personally committed, among other things, the attack against civilians in Mariupol yesterday” – Nalivaichenko said. According to the Head of SSU, the counterintelligence brought one of the detainees to Kiev, and the man declared his readiness to cooperate with the Ukrainian justice.

Also, according to Nalivaichenko, Ukrainian security forces killed several members of the group bombarding the positions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and a Russian was among the killed. A Russian citizen with the surname Emelyanov was revealed among the dead militia men who bombarded Mariupol, his documents has been found and are being transferred to Kiev, as the Ukraininan Freelance News Agency reported.

Nalivaichenko asked to transfer the information about the Russian through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the OSCE, in order to inform his family in Russia, as well as provide the international community with the evidence of the presence of Russian troops in the region of combat operations in the Donbass. Earlier Nalivaichenko announced the arrest of an artillery observer for Mariupol who turned out to be a resident of this city with the surname Kirsanov, who has worked as a State Automobile Inspector until recently.

The second weapons controller is still being sought. This is Sergei Ponomarenko, born in 1977, who is also a resident of Mariupol. Official Russian representatives have repeatedly denied the statements of Kiev, the USA and NATO on the presence of the Russian military on the territory of Ukraine, the involvement of the Russian Federation into the actions of the militia men and supplying them with weapons. In particular, the Russian General Staff stressed that such statements were “primitive fakes”.
