EU Emergency Meeting On the Situation In Ukraine Will Be Held On Thursday
January 26, 2015 15:25

The emergency meeting of foreign ministers of the member countries of the European Union on the situation in Ukraine will be held on Thursday, January 29th. According to Reuters, this was announced by the Head of EU diplomacy Federica Mogherini.

Earlier the President of Ukraine Petr Poroshenko stated that during the meeting Kiev was going to raise the issue of increasing pressure on Russia. According to him, the meeting was to be held on Monday, January 26th.

According to the Serbian Chairmanship of OSCE, a meeting of the Permanent Council of the organization will be held in the evening of January 26th. The deteriorating situation in the East of Ukraine will be discussed there. The meetings of the OSCE and of foreign ministers of the EU countries will take place against the background of escalating conflict in Donbass, and in particular, the bombardment of Mariupol, which resulted in death of 30 people on January 24th.

Kiev put the responsibility for the incident on the militia men of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic. Those, in turn, stated that they had nothing to do with the bombardment, as the fire came from the territory controlled by Ukrainian security forces.

On the same day Mogerini stated that the escalation of the conflict in Ukraine would lead to a deterioration of relations between Russia and the European Union. In this regard, she urged Russia to influence the leaders of DPR and LPR and stop supporting them in any form.

Moscow representatives, in their turn, claim that the things happening in Donbass are the result of “the course of Kiev aimed at the avoidance of direct dialogue with Donetsk and Luhansk concerning practical implementation of the Minsk agreements and the violent suppression of the South-East”.
