Russia permitted imports of milk to 11 Brazilian producers under the guarantee of the Veterinary Service of the South American country.
Brazil in its turn accepted the terms of the Russian Federation for the supply of Russian grain and the guarantees of the Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance for the companies interested in exporting fishery products to Brazilian consumers. This is stated in a message posted on the website of the supervisory agency. It is noted that the mutually beneficial decisions were taken on July 8 during a meeting of the Head of Rosselkhoznadzor Sergei Dankvert and the Secretary for International Relations in Agribusiness of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Food Supply of Brazil Tatiana Palermo held in Moscow.
The negotiations also involved the discussion of arrangement of supplies of genetic resources, in particular, hatching eggs and breeding pigs, from Brazil to Russia. During the meeting Dankvert recalled that the rapid development of relations between Moscow and Brasilia in the field of trade in food products began in the 2000s when a fundamental decision was taken concerning the diversification of supplies to the Russian food market in order to get away from the domination of the US and the European Union that then imported a total of 2.8 million tons of meat per year. This made it possible to improve the competitive environment on the domestic food market. Brazil became the first supplier of meat from Latin America; Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay and Chile joined later.
