The memorandum on gas supplies to China between ”Gazprom” and the Chinese National Petroleum Company (CNPC) provides for a third route in addition to the eastern and western ones. This was stated by the Head of the Russian holding company Aleksei Miller after the companies signed the Memorandum of Understanding on the natural gas supplies from Russia to China and on the construction of a pipeline to the Far East. This was reported by TASS.
“This will be the third project within the framework of strategic cooperation between “Gazprom” and CNPC in the next five years” - Miller said. He also noted that they would conduct the studies on the possibilities of supply, and the amount and terms will be determined on the basis of these studies.
The document was approved in the presence of the Russian President Vladimir Putin and the Chinese President Xi Jinping. The agreement on the basic conditions of gas supply through the western route was signed by “Gazprom” and the Chinese corporation CNPC on May 8.
The project provides for the supply of gas to China from the fields in Western Siberia in the amount of 30 billion cubic meters per year. It is assumed that the supply of gas will be delivered through the “Altai” pipeline.
