The joint Russian-Israeli commission for coordination of actions of the armed forces of the two countries in Syria will be headed by the Deputy Heads of their General Staffs, according to the website Newsru.co.il.
According to the web-portal, the task of the commission includes coordination of the actions of the military in the air, at sea and in the field of various technical measures. The agreement on the principles of work of the commission was reached at the meeting of the Heads of General Staffs of IDF (Israel Defense Forces) and the Armed Forces of the RF – the Lieutenant General Gadi Eizenkot and the Army General Valery Gerasimov, as the newspaper notes.
The Heads of Staffs of the two countries met in Moscow on 21 September during the visit of the Prime Minister of Israel Benjamin Netyanyahu to Russia. According to the web-portal, the IDF Chief of Military Intelligence, the Major General Herz Ha-Levi also visited Moscow and transmitted the data of the Israeli intelligence about the activity of pro-Iranian forces in the Golan Heights to his Russian colleagues.
Besides, the Israeli mass media reported, with the reference to the US sources, that Russia was currently concentrating 28 combat aircrafts at the air base in Latakia, including 12 Su-24 bombers, 12 Su-25 attack aircrafts and 4 Su-30 battle aircrafts, as well as 20 combat and transport helicopters. In addition, they reported about the use of unmanned aerial vehicles for reconnaissance.
As the sources close to the Israeli security forces told to “Lenta.ru”, according to available unconfirmed information, the first targets for the Russian group in Syria might be to support the Syrian Arab army and the pro-government forces in the regions of Palmyra and Idlib.
Some Israeli experts believe that Russia can come over to militant actions after the speech delivered by the Russian President Vladimir Putin at the UN next week. “If the buildup of forces continues at the same speed, the group may increase twofold by the beginning of next week” – the source of “Lenta.ru” noted.
