The authorized representatives of the Russian Foreign Ministry for human rights, democracy and the rule of law Konstantin Dolgov summed up the results of 2015 on air of the “Russian News Service” radio station and listed main successes and failures in world politics.
According to the diplomat, the main achievement of Russia in the last year was the anti-terrorist operation in Syria. “These were real blows on the fighters of DAISH (an Arab version of ISIS - “Islamic State of Iraq and Syria” that was later renamed as “Islamic state”, IS - a commentary by “Lenta.ru”), “Jabhat Al-Nusra” and other terrorist groups, the real leadership of Russia in the fight against terrorism” – Dolgov stated.
He also expressed the hope that in 2016 the fight against terrorism would be more effective and lead to the creation of a broad anti-terrorist coalition. Talking about the failures of last year, the representative of the Foreign Ministry recalled “double standards which persist in the field of human rights and the rule of law” on the part of “the United States, European Union and other Western countries”. He drew the situation in Ukraine as an example.
“The year 2015 began with torchlight processions of the followers of Bandera, the right sector and other radical nationalists and neo-Nazis in Kiev and other cities of Ukraine, and it ends with the same torch processions in several Ukrainian cities. It is a visible stagnation, and unfortunately, the Ukrainian authorities experienced no serious effect from the West, international human rights organizations which are very attentive to the opinion of the West, and they could work much more actively in the Ukrainian direction” - the diplomat explained. “Islamic State” is a terrorist organization that controls the territories of Syria and Iraq. The activities of the group are banned in Russia.
