First organized deliveries of vegetables and fruits from Syria to Russia have begun; they have to at least partially replace Turkish products forbidden to import. This is written by “Kommersant”.

The importer is “Adyg-Yurak” company from Maikop. According to the newspaper, it can be associated with the structures of the God Nisanov and Zarakh Iliev who own “Evropeyskiy” shopping centre and “Ukraina” hotel in Moscow. Vegetables and fruits are already coming to the wholesale and retail food centre “Food City” controlled by the businessmen. Last week the second batch of products - about 3 thousand tons of oranges, lemons, grapefruits, tomatoes and cabbage - arrived in the port of Novorossiysk.

Until the last moment the deliveries from Syria were of test nature and came in small batches. According to the Director of “Adyg-Yurak” Aslan Panesh, the company is negotiating the sales of Syrian products with retail chains, “Magnit” and “Pyaterochka”, a member of X5 Retail Group.

The main problem that prevents the establishment of permanent import is the poor quality of packaging material, as Panesh noted. But, according to his words, the production of modern packaging material is to be launched in Syria in 6 months: his company intends to invest in this venture. “This will allow us to import 3-4 thousand tons of vegetables and fruits weekly” - Panesh thinks. “We plan to bring the volume of import to 5000 tons per week”.
