Russia May Grant a Loan To Iran
April 18, 2016 23:29

Russia and Iran have removed disagreements on the draft agreement on granting a loan of $ 5 billion to Iran. This was stated by the Deputy Finance Minister Sergei Storchak, as Rambler News Service reported on Monday, April 18.

According to Storchak, the interagency coordination of the loan in the Russian government should be passed quickly enough. “Next, it is a chance of circumstance for us to sign it” - he explained. In November 2015 the First Deputy Minister of Industry, Mines and Trade of the Islamic Republic Mojtaba Hosroutadzh said that Iran could get $ 7 billion from Russia.

In turn, the Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Moscow was ready to provide a loan after a meeting with his Iranian counterpart Hassan Rouhani. It was assumed that $ 5 billion would be allocated by the government from the federal budget, and another $ 2 billion - by VEB.

Money should go to  infrastructure projects in the field of electricity and rail transport. The two governments have worked on the two options of financing. Money can be allocated either on the security of the Iranian state or on the security of banks. It has not yet been decided which one to choose.
