Russian car market moved to the sixth place in the European ranking with Spain ahead by the end of May. This was reported by the “Avtostat” agency that analyzed the data of the national producers’ associations on Thursday, June 9. According to the preliminary estimates of the agency, the sales of passenger cars in Russia amounted to about 100 thousand pieces.
The European ranking is headed by Germany where 286,000 cars were sold. The next line is taken by the United Kingdom with 203,000 cars. This is the best result for the British market since 2002. The third place belongs to Italy with 187,000 vehicles sold. It is followed by France (175 thousand) and Spain (113 thousand).
However, according to the opinion of the Chairman of AEB Automobile Manufacturers Committee Jörg Schreiber, the dynamics of sales in Russia gives rise to “cautious optimism”. “The prevailing point of view in the expert community is that the Russian economy has passed its lowest point; and the forecast is stable and even positive, at least until the end of the year” - Schreiber noted earlier in June. According to the statistics of the Association of European Business, 107,665 cars were sold in the country in May – it is 18,203 cars less than a year earlier. AEB noted that the Russian car market had decreased by 14.7 percent in the first five months of 2016 – down to 548,119 cars sold.
The leader is still “AvtoVAZ” that sold 20,597 vehicles in May (minus 10 percent, as compared with the previous year). The second place in volume of sales is taken by KIA – 11,997 cars (minus three percent). The third line is occupied by Hyundai with the indicator of 10,603 cars, minus 22 percent, as compared with last year.
