The Iranian mass media misunderstood the name of the Chairperson of the Federation Council of Russia Valentina Matviyenko who met with the President Hassan Rouhani in Tehran.

The publications could not figure out her name and surname in the expression “Valentina Ivanovna Matviyenko” and offered their own version.

For example, the English-language edition of Iran Daily called the Speaker of the Federation Council “Ivanovna” or “Matviyenko”. The headline of the news written after the results of the political meeting states: “Russian Ivanovna held negotiations with senior Iranian politicians”.

Matviyenko was called “Ivanovna” even by the major FARS information agency. The picture accompanying the news about the negotiations was signed by the following text: “The Iranian president Hassan Rouhani at a meeting with the Chairman of the Council (of the Federation) Matviyenko in Tehran”. The upcoming visit of “Ivanovna” to Iran on November 13 was announced by the Trend web portal. The web site reported that “Ivanovna would hold negotiations with senior Iranian politicians in Tehran, including the President Hassan Rouhani and the Foreign Minister”.
