Rosselkhoznadzor Suspected PepsiCo of "Commercial Espionage"
December 7, 2017 14:40

Rosselkhoznadzor concluded that a hacker attack by American company PepsiCo was "aimed at gaining access to the secret information of the Russian government authorities" and suspected the company of "commercial espionage". According to the service, this is evidenced by the results of internal audit, which showed that none of Rosselkhoznadzor employees who had access to the documents marked "For official use" "had sent the letter to the external information field."

The document was obtained by representatives of PepsiCo "illegally" and gave its enterprises a competitive advantage over Russian companies, an official representative of Rosselkhoznadzor Yulia Melano said in an interview with RBK. "This fact can be regarded as commercial espionage," she emphasised.

According to the agency, during a meeting with Sergey Glushkov, the Vice-President of PepsiCo for corporate relations in Russia, Ukraine, the CIS and Central Europe, he showed the staff of the department a copy of the internal service document of Rosselkhoznadzor with the mark "for official use." The document, which was shown by Glushkov, was not sent to PepsiCo, so this incident indicates that the American company is "using illegal methods" to obtain the information, the Rosselkhoznadzor specified.
