Poland is Acting Against the Nord Stream-2
February 15, 2018 00:20

Poland intends to oppose its own project - Baltic Pipe - to the Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline. The initiative belongs to the party "Law and Justice".

The gas pipeline is planned to lay from the coast of Poland to Denmark along the bottom of the Baltic Sea. This is expected to enable the gas-transport company of Poland Gaz-System to connect to the Norwegian gas transportation network.

The decision to implement the project should be made before the end of the year. The gas pipeline can start to be operated in 2022. According to the publication, at the end of 2017 the Polish state oil and gas company PGNiG reserved the capacity of the gas pipeline to the amount of more than two billion US dollars for 15 years. The capacity of Baltic Pipe is 10 billion cubic meters per year.

The Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline involves the construction of two lines with a total capacity of 55 billion cubic meters of gas per year. Against the implementation of the project are Poland, Ukraine and the United States. Warsaw consolidates that the construction of the pipeline threatens the energy security of not only Poland, but the whole Europe.
