Russia can Apply to the WTO Court because of the Import Duties Imposed on Steel and Aluminum by the US
March 11, 2018 18:39

Russia can apply to the WTO court because of the import duties imposed on steel and aluminum by the US President Donald Tramp. This was stated by the chairman of the State Duma Committee for Economic Policy and Industry, Sergei Zhigarev, the radio station "Says Moscow" reports. At the same time, Russia will not be the only country that will initiate the proceedings.

"Suppliers will have to apply to the government, and the government will have to initiate this situation. You remember how a few months ago we talked about pork, that we were sued for pork, so we can apply to America on steel," the deputy said.

Zhigarev added that the measures taken by Trump were logical, given the pre-election rhetoric of the US president. At the same time, Russian manufacturers can suffer damage. On March 9, the US President Donald Trump signed a decree on the introduction of import duties on steel and aluminum. The tariffs will be 25 percent for steel and 10 percent for aluminum. Restrictions have been introduced for all foreign countries except US partners for the NAFTA association (Canada and Mexico).
