April 14, 2018 16:06

The Government of Finland approved the construction of Russian gas pipeline Nord Stream-2 in their own special economic zone. The announcement of the decision of Finnish Ministry Cabinet is posted on the official website of the state body.

374 kilometers of the Russian gas pipeline will pass the territory of Finland. "The contractor is obliged to fulfill all the conditions on the basis of which the government has authorized the project to be implemented. This means that the project should be implemented with minimal risks to the environment, the Baltic Sea and other projects in the special economic zone," the Finnish government said in its statement.

The operator of the gas pipeline of the Nord Stream 2 Company, registered in Switzerland, still needs to obtain permission for civil works from the local authorities of southern Finland. It is the local authorities who give a conclusion on the consequences for the environment, as well as on compliance with the current legislation, including water use.
