The Tretyakov Gallery Set A Record

Exhibition of paintings by Valentin Serov in the Tretyakov Art Gallery became the most visited museums in the history of museums of the USSR and Russia. The director of the Tretyakov Gallery Zelfira Tregulova said this to the reporters.

Tregulova noted that the exhibition has been visited by about 440 thousand people. "This is absolutely a record figure in the history of the Tretyakov Gallery and exhibitions of Russian art for last 50 years. I think this is absolutely a record figure in the history of the exhibition business in the USSR and Russia" - she said. On 23 January  the administration of the State Tretyakov Gallery announced the extension of the exhibition of Serov by a week. According to Tregulova, this is a deadline: six paintings of 255 should be returned to the foreign collections of France, Denmark, Armenia and Belarus before January 29 “in connection with the customs legislation”, she explained.

On 22 January people who want to see the retrospective broke down the door of the building on Krymsky Val. During the incident no one was hurt, but just in case a gallery called an ambulance and additional security. Tregulova explained it as nervousness of visitors. She also noted that in the two queues formed at the entrance to the exhibition there were conflicts and disputes.

Valentin Serov was a master of  Portrait, one of the most important representatives of Russian realism and neoclassicism. Among his most famous paintings are "Girl with Peaches", "The Rape of Europe", "Girl in the Sunlight", a portrait of Nicolay II. Initially it was assumed that the exhibition of the artist opened on October 7, 2015, which includes paintings and graphic works from 25 Russian museums, four foreign museums, as well as nine private collections, will be open till 24 January.
