Rich Russians Occupy the Second Place in the World by the Number of Yachts

Rich Russians occupy the second place in the world by the number of their yachts over 40 meters in length. First place is taken by billionaires from the United States. This is stated in the report on the distribution of welfare in the world - The Wealth Report 2018, prepared by the analysts of Knight Frank.

Citizens of Russia own 168 yachts with an average displacement of over 1.3 thousand tons and an average length of 59 meters. Moreover, in 2017 Russia and the CIS were leaders in the purchase of private aircraft; their number increased by 7 percent - to 241 business jets. In Asia, private aircraft purchases grew by 4 percent last year, in North America - by 3 percent. Nevertheless, the first place by number of private aircraft in the world is taken by North America - 13.7 thousand units, or 64% of the total quantity in the world.

In general, in 2017 the number of Russians with a fortune of $ 5 million increased by 27 percent compared to 2016 and amounted to 38,000 people. Knight Frank refers owners of 50 million dollars or more to ultra-rich people; in Russia their number increased by 26 percent for the year (2.6 thousand people).
