Cirque du Soleil® invited Alena Akhmadullina to design costumes for the special New Year Show JOEL that will be presented at the Concert Hall Barvikha Luxury Village.

Alena is to design about 40 different outfits for all performers of the JOEL Show. Characters of the show travel between the urban reality and fantastic ball of the Snow Queen, so, on the one hand, the costumes must look suitable for contemporary urban citizens, but on the other, must turn performers into authentic fairy-tale characters. 22 performers from 8 different countries will take part in JOEL Show. Within the performance every participant will change several outfits which should not only support the story of this or that character but also be comfortable for an acrobat, a juggler or dancer to perform their stunts and tricks safely and efficiently. Cirque du Soleil appreciates Alena’s ability to tell Russian fairy-tales in the urban language of beautiful and timely items – rich application of fur and leather textures, soft and cozy fabrics that is absolutely essential because the JOEL Show is planning to fascinate the audience with the New Year magic.

‘While creating something unique for the Russian audience, we found it right to work with Alena, an authentic and innovative Russian designer. In setting up the JOEL Show borrowings are inappropriate; whatever element of performance we are talking about. Together with Alena Akhmadullina we achieved to design the authentic visual JOEL language, the language of the fantastic forest and its habitats. Her talent beautifully supplements the unique character of our projects,’ – explains Fernand Reynvil, director of JOEL Show.

‘Fairy-tale images are a part of Alena Akhmadullina brand’s DNA, however the business part of our pret-a-porter collections puts certain frames to designer’s fantasy. Work with Cirque du Soleil gives the opportunity to dive into fairy-tale practically with no limits, and design magnificent outfits that are stylistically close to our concept which originally refers to Russian traditions but in modern interpretation,’ – Alena Akhmadullina talks about her work on JOEL Show.

JOEL Show, inspired by the Russian New Year traditions, is the performance about nowadays Snow Maiden who happens to be in the snowy charming magnificent world on the New Year Eve where myriad of cold stars will show her the way to love. Concert Hall Barvikha Luxury Village with host the show from 2 to 10 January 2016.
