The ‘Russian Art Heritage’ All-Russia Folk Arts & Crafts Festival, organized by the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade, Russian Fashion Council, and Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Russia will be held at the ‘Manege’ Central Exhibition Hall.

The Festival celebrates the development of traditional folk culture, and is aimed at demonstrating Russian crafts, introducing the young generation to the national flair and the inspiration of Russian designers, reaching out to the Russian cultural roots. The combination of modern trends with traditional motifs will give a chance to see folk artistic crafts through the eyes of the fashion industry. During the Festival a part of the Central Exhibition Hall will be turned into a stylized art space of the Russian artists’ grand workshop.

The Festival is meant to create a unique opportunity for designers and consumers to learn about the history and technologies of various crafts.

The exhibition will demonstrate 25 Russian folk artistic crafts: from Gzhel ceramics, Zhostovo painting and Palekh miniature to Dymkovo toys and Vyatka lace. A number of undeservingly forgotten but no less amazing Russian crafts will also be on display in their new redesigned version. New interpretation of Russian folk artistic crafts will also be present on the runways. Applying the prints, inspired by traditional motifs, and in some cases using traditional cuts, designers Anya Tolstaya, L’EREDE, Zukhra Mingazova and Musharraf Shamsieva and Valeria Safina will create fashionable, modern and quality kids’ wear that will be presented on October 14, 2016 during a collective runway show at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Russia.

‘The elements of folk designs may become a source of growth and a distinctive feature of our fashion,’ said Dmitry Kolobov, Director of the Department of Socially Conscious Industries’ Development in the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation.

Interactive events will be held in each thematic area of the exhibition throughout the Festival. Both children and adults will have an opportunity to participate in master-classes and competitions on painting and toy-making. For those who are up to something more serious a number of lectures will be read by masters of folk crafts, art experts, Russian universities’ professors, and even by the representatives of the Russian Federal Service for Intellectual Property, who will explain how a patent can be registered, and will give a review of the topical issues in the area of copyright products protection.
