From February 17 till 21, 2017, young Russian brands Artem Shumov, NAIDAL, Lumier Garson, ZA_ZA, Saint-Tokyo and TURBO YULIA will take part in the exhibition International Fashion Showcase (IFS), established by the British Fashion Council with the aim to support young designers from all over the world. Annual IFS project is one of the key platforms of London Fashion Week, which reflects the symbiosis of fashion trends and contemporary art.

The Russian Fashion Council and Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Russia are long standing partners with the British Fashion Council. Russians taking part in the international IFS project will allow to open a new page in the history of this partnership.

International Fashion Showcase is held in London during London Fashion Week since 2012. Along the way over 450 designers from 57 countries of the world have taken part in it. The project enables fashion designers from all over the world to show their works to the international audience, including buyers, journalists and other experts of the fashion industry. A panel of industry experts headed by Sara Mower (fashion critic, contributing editor to US Vogue and advocate for young designers at the British Fashion Council) will assess talents and perspectives of participants. Russia is going to take part in this international project for the first time.

The event will be held in the largest exhibition complex of London, Somerset House. Somerset House is an ancient 16th century building, which recently has become one of the central London exhibition and festival platforms, where London Fashion Week is held annually. For the first time London Fashion Week was held in 1984, and today it is among five most prominent fashion weeks of the world, being one of the largest platforms of the fashion industry where over 150 designers present their new collections.

In February 2017 the main theme of the IFS exhibition will be LOCAL/GLOBAL. In accordance with this theme every country is invited to study the influence of local traditions on fashion trends and examine how emerging designers can transform their local culture into a global language.

To present the subject LOCAL/GLOBAL the Russian designers have turned to stylistics of folk artistic crafts, imaging going back to the Russian historic background and traditions with the view to identify the Russian fashion in the global arena.

“Taking part in the IFS project LOCAL/GLOBAL, Russia gets a great opportunity to demonstrate its creative potential and present the Russian cultural heritage along with the actual fashion trends at the international level. Folk artistic crafts are inspiring the new generation of Russian designers promoting national identification and forming a new take on the contemporary Russian fashion”, said Alexander Shumsky, Executive President of the Russian Fashion Council and President of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Russia.

Peculiar Russian patterns will become an inspiration for every designer taking part in the event and will be materialized in accordance with the contemporary vision. Specially for IFS 2017 selected designers will create their capsule collections that will be further included into collections of the forthcoming season and presented on March 12 to 17, 2017, during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Russia in the Central Exhibition Hall Manege.

ZA_ZA will present its show on March 13.

Saint-Tokyo will present its show on March 15.

Lumier Garson will present its show on March 15.

Artem Shumov will present its show on March 16.

Yekaterina Melnikova, stylist and director, known for her ten years of cooperation with the GQ magazine as a creative director, is going to curate the Russian stand and the installation. Within the last 5 years Yekaterina has curated some fashion exhibitions in the Moscow Museum of Contemporary Arts and the Moscow Multimedia Art Museum, and some well-known photo-projects, too.

All goods presented in IFS will be available for immediate purchase on the Web-site thenandnowshop.com. Guests of the festival will be able to purchase exhibited goods on the special page of the site.

“Now in its sixth year, the International Fashion Showcase continues to go from strength to strength, providing a unique opportunity for emerging fashion designers from all over the world to demonstrate the strength and diversity of global fashion during London Fashion Week. This year’s theme; Local/Global, takes fashion’s connection to its local context as its starting point, looking at and how young designers are exploring identity in an increasingly globalised world. The standard of work presented at IFS never fails to impress; and I look forward to seeing the diversity and innovation of the designers taking part in this year's exhibition”, says Sarah Mann, Director of Architecture, Design, Fashion, British Council.
