Public Opinion On Russian Crisis

The share of Russians, who believe that the economy of the country is in crisis, stays at the level of 79% for the third month at a time. This is evidenced by a survey conducted by the fund "Public opinion".

For 40 percent of people the main problem is high prices in the country. Moreover people are concerned about declining of living standards, low salaries and pensions, unemployment, poor development of the economy as a whole. 29 percent of respondents expressed their concern about the decline in the standard of living of people, low wages, pensions, benefits as well as about the delay or reduce in salaries.

Problems of unemployment, cuts at  work concerned most of all 16 percent of respondents. Poor development of industry, agriculture and economic recession in general is concerned by about 9 percent of Russians. At the same time, one of eight respondents (12 percent) said that in Russia there was no economic crisis. 8 percent of survey participants could not answer anything.

Among those who have acknowledged the existence of the crisis, 16 percent believe that within a year it will be weaker, and 4% believe that it will be over. 15 percent are afraid that it will intensify, and 28 percent believe that the situation will not change. The survey was conducted on May 14-15 among 1,500 respondents in 104 settlements of 53 regions of Russia.
