Russians Take Loans To Repay Old Debts

53 percent of borrowers took new loans for partial or full repayment of old debts in 2016. This is reported by Unified Credit Bureau (UCB) that surveyed the data of 45 million people with open credits.

The average size of a new loan taken for the purpose of repayment of old debts has grown from 101 thousand to 126 thousand roubles over 2016, and the loan size for direct consumption increased from 143 000 to 167 thousand roubles.

The highest proportion of borrowers repaying old debts is observed among those who took new cash loans up to 50 thousand roubles: there are 56 percent of them. Those who borrowed from 50 to 150 thousand roubles include 41 percent of such people, those with credits ranging from 150 to 250 thousand roubles - 43 percent, with credits ranging from 250 to 500 thousand roubles - 46 percent, with credits above 500 thousand roubles - 47 percent.

There is also a tendency of a higher average monthly payment on the previously open credits of the borrowers who resolved to refinance their debts, than among those who took new credits for direct consumption.
