Cleansing the coast of black oil pollution and rescuing the birds affected by spill of petroleum, oil, and lubricants from the tanker Nadezhda go on in Nevelsk, the Ecological Watch of Sakhalin reports.
According to organizers, more than 150 residents of Sakhalin are taking part in it. Bus transfer from Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk to Nevelsk is organized for the volonteers.
Volunteers rescue birds and cleanse the coast of black oil pollution. "It is a highly important task since black oil patches lying ashore are carried around with tidal waters, so they keep besmearing birds and poisoning the marine environment", - the organizers report.
Collected soil is accumulated to be removed and disposed. Groups of volunteers of 20 to 30 people are headed by professional rescuers.
Volunteers are provided with special overalls and warm rubber gloves, as well as hot tea and snacks. Nevertheless, local authorities advise them to put on very warm clothes and emphasize that wearing warm gumboots is a must.
The actions are arranged by the public organizations Boomerang Club and Ecological Watch of Sakhalin.
266 people and 49 units of equipment, including 79 people and 7 units of equipment from the Ministry of Emergency Situations are involved in recovery from the stranding accident of the Nadezhda tanker.
As reported earlier, the Nadezhda tanker was remaining off the harbour at the Nevelsk sea fish port, when it was stranded by storm on November 28. It was wrecked into reeves located 150 meters away from the shore. The engine room of the vessel was flooded, with three fuel storage tanks punched.
The tanker had 786 tons of fuel onboard, including 426 tons of diesel fuel and 360 tons of fuel oil. Nearly 230 tons of diesel fuel have already been removed from the vessel tanks by rescuers.
The tanker owned by the DV Akvatoria JSC was constructed in Korea in 1986 and its registry port is Nakhodka.
