Canadians were honest in their comments about the World Cup final where they humiliated Russia 6-1.
Coach Todd McLellan
“It does because we’ve created history. For this team, this year, against all of the opponents, this was a historic year for us.”
“There’s a tremendous amount of talented players on their team. They’ve had legendary careers both internationally and in the NHL.”
“Their stare-down in warm-up was just exactly what our team needed.” “You don’t hope for the extra motivation but we got it. And our guys grabbed it. Our guys really, really wanted it today. They really did.” “It wasn’t a 3-2 win. It was a 6-1 thrashing!
“It was a hell of a game that we played. Six-to-one was a very satisfying score. They revealed what they wanted to reveal to us in warm-up staring us down. And when it came time to play, we were there.”
“We were machine-like. It just kept coming and kept coming,” said McLellan.
Goaltender Mike Smith:
“We made a really good team look average.”
Left-winger Taylor Hall:
“It’s just a great feeling to be a champion.”
“You go against these guys all season long and then you come together as a team with a lot of skill and by the end become the hardest working team in the tournament.
“I don’t want to say we were a perfect team by any means but by the end we were running pretty well.”
Jordan Eberle:
“It’s fun to win.”
“I think we saved our best for last. We didn’t give them anything, really and capitalized on our chances. It was a fun game to be part of.”
Aaron Ekblad:

“It was my first world championship and what a great feeling. It’s awesome.”
