Specialized Products For Sportsmen Will Be Imported
September 20, 2015 00:52

The Government of the Russian Federation lifted the counter-sanctions from specialized products for sportsmen upon confirmation of the purpose of imported goods by the Ministry of Sports of the Russian Federation.

The corresponding decree was signed by the Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev on September 16, according to “Interfax”. As the Cabinet of Ministers noted, these products are needed for sports training and it is impossible to fully replace them with Russian analogues.

“The annual demand for these goods only from the national teams (without taking into account the needs of regional athletes and amateurs), according to the requests of the doctors of sports federations, makes up about 100-130 million roubles a year. The producing countries of the most advanced products are mainly Germany, Switzerland, USA, Canada and Japan” - the statement of the government said.

The ban on the imports of certain food products from the US, Australia, Canada, EU and Norway was introduced by Russia on August 7, 2014. These measures were taken in response to the sanctions against Russia caused by the situation in Ukraine. The ban affected fruits, vegetables, dairy and meat products.

On August 20, 2014 the Russian government lifted the embargo for concentrates of vegetable and animal proteins, sports nutrition, lactose-free milk, dietary supplements and complexes of vitamins and minerals. They also lifted the ban on the supply of seed potatoes, smolts (fry for aquatic culture), set onion, hybrid corn and pea seeds. On June 24, 2015 the Russian President Vladimir Putin extended the counter-sanctions for a year - until August 6, 2016.
