Naryn-Kala - Citadel Of Ancient Derbent
Naryn-Kala, the citadel of ancient Derbent, stands on the slope of the hill hanging over the city. Two lines of fortifications that once led from the castle to the sea can be seen from the viewing platform. Quarters (mangals) of the old city are sandwiched between the northern and the southern walls. Everything behind the walls is the new city. Derbent began from here, from the citadel of Naryn-Kala.

The age of the city is counted even not in centuries - the emergence of the settlements in this place, at the Caspian Gate is related to IV millennium BC by the scientists, and the city has existed here since VI century BC.
History Of Derbent
The first settlements appeared on the place of the modern Derbent in the Early Bronze Age - at the end of IV millennium BC. Then this place was called the Caspian Gate.
