About 30 years ago Soviet citizens could only dream about a car, which was never regarded as just a vehicle. To enjoy driving their own car people had to register for a waiting list and only then they had a right to purchase a private auto. Today city citizens prefer foreign cars to domestic ones, but there was the time when having a car was a special privilege placing the lucky person above all others. Here are some notes about the key Russian car manufacturers fighting for Russian consumers.


The Top Selling Cars in Russia
LadaVesta has become the top selling car in Russia this summer. According to the Association of European Business (AEB), 8,510 vehicles of this brand were sold in August.
AvtoVAZ Set to Cut Production in Autumn
AvtoVAZ, Russias biggest carmaker, has announced a 25,000-unit cut in output in the next three months amid slackening demand.
Renault Leads Imported Car Market In Russia
According to Autostat, in first ten months of 2013 Renault, the French car manufacturer has become the leader in Russian foreign car market with total 173.494 cars sold, which is 12% higher than same period last year. So, comparing with 2012, Renault left behind such brands as Kia and Chevrolet.
Renault, Nissan, Avtovaz Face Share Drop
The alliance of three major car producers in Russia - Renault, Nissan and Avtovaz - has seen its share of the Russian market shrink below 30 percent in 1H 2013, despite earlier plans to capture 40 percent of the market by 2016, says Vedomosti.
Russia Ups Domestic Cars Exports in 2012
Russia has increased its exports of domestic cars to a total of 113,000 vehicles in 2012.
