Russian Winter: Christmas Markets in St. Petersburg

Russian Christmas markets, held in cities and towns throughout the country, are becoming more popular, due to the enchanting festive atmosphere they evoke. After presenting you a guide to the best Moscow Christmas markets and fairs, we continue to explore the topic and today offer a new list dedicated to St. Petersburg, the so-called second capital of Russia.

Culture and exhibition centre “Eurasia”

“New Year Gifts”
Address: 13, Captain Voronin Street.
Dates: December 23-29, 2011.

Here you can find all necessary things for New Year celebration (gifts, toys, fireworks), book a New Year tour, order flowers and congratulation poems. Visitors will learn about Christmas traditions and feel the atmosphere of upcoming New Year's Day. 


All gifts are thematically divided into several parts: New Year, Computers, Home, Music, Cinema, Books, Holiday, etc.
Different workshops will be held in the centre.

Book New Year Tour to Russia (Moscow, Pskov, St. Petersburg)

“Christmas Fair”
Address: 13, Captain Voronin Street.
Dates: January 5-11, 2012.

Visitors will be able to buy various products like jewelries, vases, hats and bags, sweets and much more.
Russian temples and monasteries will bring Christmas gifts, that will be sold in special church shops.
The program includes an interactive show, puppet theatre, different workshops (felting, making toys, bead waving).

 “Christmas Sweets”
Address: 13, Captain Voronin Street.
Dates: January 5-11, 2012.
Hours: January 5-10 from 11:00 to 18:00, January 11 from 11:00 to 16:00.

The confectionary festival will be opened on January 5 at 2 p.m. Many different fabrics, producing high-quality sweets, will take part in the event.
Guests will be able to taste chocolate, local bakery, candy floss, national food and original drinks.
There also will be special desserts for vegetarians and followers of dietary foods. Each visitor can get professional advice on how to choose ingredients.
There is no doubt that this meeting will be fun entertainment for both children and parents.

The Main New Year Fair
Address: Ostrovsky Square, near Alexandrinsky Theatre.
Dates: December 21, 2011-January 14, 2012, from 12:00 to 20:00.

The main New Year Fair in St. Petersburg will be held at Ostrovsky Square. The festival is planned to be international and will unite 15 countries (USA, Italy, Spain, the UK and others). Several stalls with souvenirs and national food will be located on th square.
 

You can try the following national dishes during the festival: paella (it will be served at the Spanish house), fish-and-chips (British house), steaks on the grill (American house), risotto, lasagna and pizza (Italian house), sausage with beans, cabbage or onions and pork ribs (German house). 
Every little house on the square will be a real Christmas residence with a unique spirit of the national holiday.
 

The infrastructure includes: a special sports and games area, merry-go-rounds, ice skating rink, market stalls selling an amazing variety of goods ( toys, knitted garments, fur hats, scarfs, samovars, food and fir trees), the house of Ded Moroz (opening hours: 14:00 to 20:00).

Book New Year Tour to Russia (Moscow, Pskov, St. Petersburg)

The program includes: hockey workshops for children, fun Russian games (felt boot throwing, running on stilts, fisticuffs), the arrival of Coca-Cola's Christmas Caravan on December 22, the arrival of Ded Moroz on December 25.
Each day of the Fair will be dedicated to a particular country.

FREE'k Bazar
Address: Ligovsky Prospekt, 74, in the building of the former Smolninsky bread factory.
Hours: weekdays from 16:00 to 22:00, weekends from 12:00 to 22:00.
Dates: December 20-31, 2011.

Young designers, artists, musicians, owners of second-hand and vintage shops will present a unique Christmas exhibition of various gifts and toys of XXI century. It is a must-see place, if you are ready for unusual shopping and want to meet like-minded people.
