The Fourth International Historical Festival “Times and Epochs” in the “Kolomenskoye” Museum-Reserve will be dedicated to the beginning of the XX century. The guests will play petanque, croquet, hoops and badminton; ride vintage cars and horse-drawn carriages; watch silent films, order vintage dresses in a trendy studio and make vintage photo portraits. Goats, cows, sheep will inhabit the “Village” site; those who wish will be taught to make wooden utensils, dolls, clay toys, bast shoes and lace in crafts workshops. You will be able to iron clothes with a coal iron, to join the workers’ demonstration or Russian dances, having a dinner of potatoes and herring and looking at cockroach races at the “Proletariat” site. The “Military” site will host the camps of European armies and a hospital, a series of reconstructions of the battles of the First World War. Candy, donuts, coulibiacs will be sold at the fair. All this will be accompanied by the sounds of balalaika and violin, the songs of peasants, the romances of gypsies, the sagas of storytellers, the jokes of Petrushka and other echoes of distant epochs.
Holi festival of colors at the Luzhniki Stadium on June 7-8.
The brightest festival of the summer will be held on the first weekend of June. Fans of Indian culture and other vacationers will paint themselves and others will all that comes handy in all colors of the rainbow. The 9th Moscow International Open Book Festival at the CHA (Central House of Artists) on June 11-14.
This year the territory of the CHA will become a “space suitable for non-trivial familiarity with new books, writers, artists and publishers from different countries of the world”. More than 400 events of book, children’s, music and film programs will be held within four days, including presentations, workshops, discussions and “round tables”. Lenore Goralik, Evgenii Vodolazkin, Lev Rubinstein, Mariam Petrosyan, Igor Chubarov, Olga Vlasova and many other writers will present their new editions. The visits of more than 30 foreign guests are expected. Particular attention of the festival will be paid to Shakespeare whose 450th birthday is celebrated in 2014. It’s a pity that he cannot come.
The International Festival “Usadba Jazz” on June 14-15.
The XI International Festival “Usadba Jazz” this year will be held in Moscow on June 14 and 15 in the usual “Arkhangelskoe” manor. The main innovation of the XI Festival will be the Festival “New Orleans/Moscow 2014”, which will be held within the framework of “Usadba”. The musicians from the state of Louisiana will play jazz, blues, zydeco and gospel at the stage of the “Aristokrat” site for two days. The performances by the saxophonist Donald Harrison, the vocalist Tara Alexander, the clarinetist Evan Christopher, Les Getrex 'n' Creole Cookin', KIPP McDonogh and other musicians are also scheduled. In addition, everyone will be able to learn ethnic dances and try the New Orleans cuisine. The music discoveries of the “Parterre” site include the Israeli collective ‘Balkan Beat Box’ experimenting with hip-hop and the Mediterranean, Balkan motives, as well as the ‘Bugge'n'Friends’ project of the Norwegian pianist, composer and producer Bugge Vesseltoft. Jazz Club will arrange a real milonga for the first time; and the program in the style of swing and blues with the headliner - Englishman Yan Segal will be presented on the “Caprice” stage. The “Bereg” site will turn into the territory of relaxation with yoga trainings against the sung mantras, smoking hookah with the view to the sea and tasting organic food. The visitors will jump on the trampoline, play volleyball, ride Segways, play badminton, frisbee, visit the children's area, designers’ fairs and see a grand firework.
The Festival of World Food and Travel “Around the World” (“Vokrug Sveta”) at the Hermitage Garden on June 28-29
The annual Festival of Food and Travel is worth visiting, at least for trying different cuisines of the world and learning the tastes of Turkish pilaf, Brazilian round buns, Thai tom yam kung, Vietnamese nems, spaghetti bolognese or organic salads. The International Festival Moscow Flower Show in Gorky Park on July 6-13

The most elegant event of the summer – the bicycle parade “A Lady on a Bike” - will be held for the third time. The theme of the parade will be “film stars of the twentieth century” (1930-1980). Hereby the ladies are offered the choice of a variety of images, from rock Hollywood beauties Marilyn Monroe, Marlene Dietrich, Greta Garbo, Audrey Hepburn to the stars of Soviet cinema, such as Tamara Makarova, Lyubov Orlova, Valentina Serov, Marina Ladynina, Svetlana Svetlichnaya, Lyudmila Tselikovskaya, Tatiana Samoilova, Lyudmila Gurchenko. In order to participate in the parade you need to choose the image of your favorite film star, create an appropriate image (dress, hairstyle, make-up), register and come to the “Sokolniki” park on August 3. The best street theatres, bands and performers from all over the world gather in Moscow for the third time in order to make a real carnival. This year the guests will be able to enjoy 15 theatre premiers, 10 art-mobiles on wheels, 30 art objects, 5 carnival workshops, 3 theatrical parades and an entire cardboard city. The festival venues will hold the performances with over 1,000 actors, craftsmen and artists from around the world. Among them there are the winners of the “Golden Mask” Aleksei Zherebtsov and ‘Liquid Theatre’, Yurii Kvyatkovskiy and the Circus of Charles La Tannes, Yuri Muravitsky, the teacher of GITIS Aleksei Kuzmin-Tarasov, the associate professor of GITIS and the director of the Nikulin Circus Elena Poldi and the Antique Circus, the international laboratory of street performance “Made in Cardboardia” with the Greek director of ‘Motus Terrae Theatre Company’ Spyros Andreopulus, the SPAM-theatre, the creative laboratory “The Man”, the Moscow Theatre of Comedy and Clowning “Grim Massa”, the Theatre of Taste, Tall Brothers, “Round II” (“Krug II”) and others. The headliners of the festival in 2014 will be the French theatre of giant puppets ‘Les Grandes Personnes’ and the characters of Cardboardia with a large-scale street performance where anyone who wishes can participate.
