The Park of the 300th Anniversary of St. Petersburg is one of the largest parks located in the northwestern part of the city (on the coast of the Gulf of Finland). The park was opened in 2003, in time to the anniversary of the city.
A tall decorative column made of granite and stylized as a lighthouse was installed on its territory. It consists of three parts symbolizing the three centuries of existence of Saint Petersburg.
The southern part of the park where the lighthouse is installed bumps into the coast of the Gulf of Finland, forming a long beach. Swimming is officially forbidden there, nevertheless, few people refrain from swimming on hot summer days.
Several years ago, a large shopping and entertainment complex - Peterland - was opened near the Park of the 300th Anniversary of St. Petersburg. A huge multi-storey building accommodates shops, a cinema and even a water park. The dome of the latter is made of wood and included into the list of the highest sites of this kind in the world: its height is 45 meters.
In 2018, a new metro station – Begovaya - was opened near the park. Besides, the tallest building in Europe - the Lakhta Centre with its magnificent silhouette visible from any part of the city - was erected not far from the green zone, on the very coast of the Gulf of Finland. The height of the business centre makes up 462 meters, which includes 86 floors!
