Windsurfing, unlike surfing, is very popular in our country. The reason is simple: for this sport only a pond and wind are needed. Here are the best spots for practicing this sport in Russia.

1. Moscow and Moscow region

The main spots are: Stroginskaya floodplain, Zavidovo, Lake Pleshcheevo, Istra reservoir, Pirogovskoye reservoir, Uchinskoye reservoir, Volkush quarry, Bear Lakes.

In Moscow and the Moscow region there are many picturesque rivers, lakes and artificial reservoirs. But the right wind (of the necessary strength) is not always here. Moreover, the season in the region does not last long: from May to September.

2. St. Petersburg

The main spots: the village of Solnechnoe (Laskovy beach), Cape Flotsky, Osinovets, Lake Ladoga, the Gulf of Finland.

Perhaps it will be a surprise for you, but windsurfing in St. Petersburg exists. The Northern capital has all the necessary conditions for this: the  waves on the Gulf of Finland, the possibility of renting a surfboard and wetsuit, several windsurfing schools. Any month is suitable when there is no ice on the Gulf of Finland (usually the season lasts from April to November). The peculiarity of local windsurfing is to monitor the forecast of storms. Sometimes beginners have to reschedule classes due to strong waves.

3. Vladivostok

The main spots: Patroclus Bay, Sivuchya Bay, Chernyshev Bay (Russky Island), Akhlestysheva Bay (Russky Island), Red Stones (Reineke Island), Vostok Bay.

Vladivostok has one of the largest community of windsurfers -  the capital of Primorye took first place in the list of the best places for surfing in Russia. You can catch the wave and wind here almost all year round - the water temperature varies from -2° C to +21° C, and ice-free bays can be found even in severe frost.

The main spot for windsurfing in Vladivostok is Reineck Island. Camps are often set up here, and visitors live in comfortable conditions on the seashore.

4. Kaliningrad

The main spots: Zelenogradsk, the village of Pionersky, Baltiysk, the Curonian Spit, the village of Donskoye, the village of Rybachy, Svetlogorsk.

There are also good conditions for skiing in the westernmost city of Russia: since the Baltic Sea in the Kaliningrad region does not freeze, the season here is limited only by the presence of a suitable wetsuit, which will save from non-European cold water. In addition to the Baltic, local windsurfers also practice on the Baltic Gulf: it is ideal for practicing any sailing due to its favorable location, and local winds are suitable for both beginners and professionals.

5. Sochi

The main spots are Adler, Hosta, Riviera, Promontory Cape, Lazarevskoye, Breeze Station.

Spacious beaches, a gentle entry into the water,   the warm Black Sea - it seems that this place was created for water and sailing sports. Both beginners and professionals practice in the Krasnodar Territory. In addition, there are almost no tourists on some “secret” beaches and spots.
