Russian Tourists Deported From Antalya
April 26, 2014 13:22

Turkish authorities deported Russian tourists with "wrong" passports, ITAR-TASS reported with reference to the press secretary of the Russian Union of Travel Industry Irina Tyurina. According to her, Dmitry and Margarita Sukhanov were deported from Antalya to Moscow on April 24.

"To be more exact, only Dmitry was deported, but his wife flew away out of solidarity with him," Tyurina said.  She added that Sukhanovs were detained at Antalya airport passport control and spent 15 hours locked up. As a result, tourists were forced to return to Moscow. Also it was reported that Turkish authorities will postpone the introduction of new rules on foreign passports, specifically for the Russians.

As RATA-news portal of the Russian Union of Travel Industry reports, the corresponding decision was taken in Ankara after the meeting of representatives of the various competent authorities. Earlier, Russian tour operators have asked the Turkish authorities to postpone the introduction of new requirements for passports of Russian citizens on May 12. The validity of these documents should now be valid for further four months from the date of entry into Turkey. Amendments to the law On Foreigners and International Protection in Turkey have already been developed, and Council of Ministers is expected to approve it before May 1.

Nevertheless, so far the exact date has not been determined, and Russian Union of Travel Industry believes that it may affect the journeys of Russians to Turkey for May holidays. "Many Russians purchased tours for May holidays: sales began as far back as at the end of the last year. The closer the departure date, the more tourists are finding out that they cannot enter Turkey," the representatives of Russian Union of Travel Industry noted.
