Alpine skiing without leaving Moscow Region
November 18, 2009 17:52

There are many skiing resorts in Russia in the highland regions. But you can find ski centers near Moscow. The Muscovites created them with a view to economy their time and maybe money. If you like snowboards and alpine skiing so much, this service is for you. In spite of the fact, that a true Russian winter seems to fall victim to global warming, there are some real skiing resorts and other places with special equipment like artificial snow making machines, lighting and rent-a-ski in Moscow and Moscow area, functioning all the winter season at any time of day. It is an optimal variant for the people, having a weekend on hands. Of course, they lose out to real skiing resorts in mountains in vertical drop and length of the ski slopes.

Skiing in Moscow
Some of the ski-centres are situated on the outskirts of Moscow. Among them are Novoperedelkino, Krylatskoye, Vorobyovy Gory and some others to be mentioned. Novoperedelkino is a part of the Western district of Moscow, a few kilometers beyond the Moscow Ring Road. The slop of Novoperedelkino is fully artificial, in spite of the others, which are created on the base of the natural relief. There are lighted 3 routes with 200 meters length and the vertical drop there is 60 meters. Half Pipe and Big Air for snowboarding are also provided here. You should take the bus 707 from the metro station of Yugo-Zapadnaya.

Krylatskoye ski centre disposes 3 slopes with vertical drop 50 meters; the length of the slopes is 150-200 meters. The equipment for skiing and snow boarding can be taken on hire. Hiring the whole outfit costs 300 rubles pro hour. You should pledge a sum of 12 000 or documents for your car as well.

Vorobyovy Gory ski centre is situated in Moscow, next to the Moscow University and Moscow River. The nearest metro station is Vorobyovy Gory. The ski centre is situated near the ski jumping board. There are 3 slopes, equipped with artificial snow making machines. The slopes 1 and 2 are satisfactorily lighted; the 3rd one is served not so carefully. The lack of cafes should be recognized as a serious fault of this place.

Skiing in Moscow area
The Volen Sports Park, Adventures Park Yakhroma and Stepanovo Srorts Comlex are situated not far from Yakhroma town (Moscow Region), on the 64th kilometer of Dmitrovskoye highway (À-104). The Volen Park offers to its guests 13 slopes for skiing and snowboarding with artificial lighting. The vertical drop is 70 meters and the length is 450. The Sports Park has a hotel for guests who want to stay there for a weekend. It is rather expensive, a standard room costs 240 euro a day. If you don’t have skis or snowboard, it is possible to take on hire everything, but hiring skis and ski boots for 5 hours would cost you 1400 – 1700 rubles. An additional point is that you should pledge 15000 – 22000 rubles getting the equipment, or a package of documents for your car could be taken as a pledge.

Adventures Park Yakhroma not far from Volen includes 4 slopes with length 60 metres and vertical drop 60 meters. The services on weekends are twice more expencive. Hiring the whole outfit for 5 hour would cost 1100 – 1600 rubles.

Stepanovo Sports Complex is situated in 5 kilometers from the Volen Sports Park. The slope is equipped with a chair lift. It is not so crowded, because the Stepanovo is not available by the public transport, only by the private car or taxi.
